This video is a digital collaboration between myself, my daughters Desirée and Emily and their friend Nicole.
The project started out as an email from Desirée about a month ago. I listened to her recording, done on an iPhone with the Voice Memos app, which featured Desirée singing and playing a Taylor 510 along with harmony vocals by her friend Nicole. I pulled out my ukulele and started playing along with the track. I thought at the time that the uke would really add a lot to their original recording. Fast forward to about a week ago where I was on Spring Break visiting my girlfriend, Elizabeth R. I decided to do a recording and video of a uke track and a 12 string track to add to their original Voice Memos recording. Once I finished the basic audio mixing and mastering in GarageBand, my daughter Emily offered to create a split screen video where I am playing the uke and my Taylor 12 string.
In this video I am playing a Taylor 455 12 string with a Herco Flex 50 Nylon pick and a Gretsch G9120-SK Koa Uke with a Herco Holy Grail pick.
The video was shot with an iPhone 6s Plus with the FiLMiC Pro app and a RØDE iXY Stereo Microphone.
The audio recording was done using some Rode NT5-Matched Pair microphones into an Apogee Duet into an iPad Air running GarageBand. I am using a pair of AIAIAI TMA-2 Modular Young Guru Preset headphones for monitoring.
For audio mastering, I added a compressor, multipresser and limiter in GarageBand.
Special thanks to my daughter Emily for the split screen video editing!
"Every revolutionary idea seems to evoke three stages of reaction. They may be summed up by the phrases: One, it's completely impossible. Two, it's possible, but it's not worth doing. Three, I said it was a good idea all along." - Arthur C. Clarke
