Guitar Comparison - Taylor GS Koa,Taylor 510,Custom Guitar from David Nichols guitar building class
In this video I am comparing "3" different acoustic guitars: Taylor GS Koa, Taylor 510, Custom Guitar from David Nichols guitar building class. David Nichols at custompearlinlay.
I am playing "4" different classic rock songs: Melissa - 1:20, The Needle And The Damage Done - 3:28, Stairway To Heaven - 6:45 and Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) - 9:20. I am using a Dunlop ULTEX .060 large triangle pick. The video was shot with an iPad Air with the FiLMiC Pro Camera app using a ProJive XLR microphone adapter and an Audix UEM-81 condenser microphone.

This video is an example of what happens when you have great equipment but haven't fully understood how to use it. I am using a Canon 7D that has the updated Firmware Version 2.0.3. The recording is a Heil PR-40 plugged directly into a Beachtek DXA-SLR PRO. There is "no audio processing" done to this recording. I didn't think that I had to disable the AGC on the DXA-SLR PRO. In this video I have the AGC DSBL switch set to the "left" and the "manual recording level" on the Canon 7D set to half way. It is obvious from the "audible hiss" in the audio that in future videos I will have to set the AGC DSBL switch to the "right". Also of note, if you can imagine this recording without the background hiss, I think overall it sounds "excellent"! I have made many "mistakes" in my ongoing process to create the highest quality videos possible. This video, I believe, represents another significant step in my ongoing journey. It is my sincere hope that others will benefit from both the technical stumbles and the creative content of my guitar videos. Peace Out!~Mick

Knockin' On Heaven's Door-Jamming-Amp-Pedal Demo

In this video I am jamming along with one of my Jam CD tracks and demonstrating some amp and pedal sounds. I'm mostly using the "G major pentatonic scale" for my lead playing. This scale pattern is the same as the E "Blues" Scale from page 13 of my method book: "Guitar Visualizations"(a playbook for learning music theory applied to the guitar).

The backing track is from my Jam CD series: Knockin' On Heaven's Door-Jam CD #1-track 7.

Here is a link to an audio version of the jam track. There is also an alternate audio version of the jam track(Jam CD #1-track 17) on the same page.

Knockin' on Heaven's Door_Jam Track Rhythm

I am playing an early 80's Ibanez Artist (finger style) with a Seymour Duncan Jazz pickup (neck pick-up-parallel) with a 12' Monster Rock cable through  a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Roadster-Channel 2(Brit Setting). The pedals I am playing through are: a VOX Valve-Tone Pedal & a Fulltone OCD(toggle switch down).

The video was shot with a Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS, the audio was recorded with a Tascam iM2 Stereo Condenser Microphone through an original iPad using the Tascam PCMRecorder app. The audio was processed using Logic 9. The video and audio were synced together in GarageBand. The final video was edited using iMovie '11. I am also experimenting with some LED lights. This video was shot in a hurry at the end of my teaching day. Stay tuned for "much better" video quality as I learn how to set up the new lights!
